Who is the strangest person you have ever met? What made this person strange? Did you pay attention to the things they told you? Why or why not?
Read Matthew 3:1-6. If John were alive today, what do you think he would have worn? What would he have eaten? Where would he have lived?
Why do you think people went out to listen to John? How would you summarize John's message?
Consider the words "repent" (vs.2) and "confess" (vs.6). How are they similar? How are they different? Why are they necessary?
Read Matthew 3:7-11. Why do you think Johan spoke so harshly to the Pharisees and Sadducees?
What do you think meant by "fruit of repentance"? How can you tell when someone has truly repented? Is this similar to or different from the fruit of the spirit (Galatians 5:22-23)
Verse 2 says that John had come to prepare the way for Jesus. Why was it important that many people repented of their sins before Jesus came? How would a "mass" repentance prepare the way for Jesus' ministry?
How can repentance and/or confession prepare our hearts for Jesus? How can a lack of repentance and/or confession hamper our relationship with Jesus?
How often should we confess our sins? What is the best way to confess? How can we know if our lives show the "fruit of repentance"?
How should we support and pray for one another this week?
