Following Jesus Means Imitating Jesus (Mark 1)

  • Read Mark 1:29–39
  • Make a list of all the things Jesus did in this passage? Which is most impressive? Which is most important?
  • What kind of person do you think Peter’s mother-in-law was? Why do you think she prepared a meal as soon as she was healed?
  • What are different ways Jesus provides healing for people today? How have you been healed by Jesus? (Hint: He can heal more than just physical ailments)
  • How have you responded to Jesus’ healing in your life? How is your response similar to Peter’s mother-in-law? How is it different?
  • Make a list of different ways you can demonstrate gratitude to Jesus.
  • Why do you think Jesus snuck away to pray the next morning? What do you think He prayed about?
  • Think about this statement: PRAYER IS PREPARATION FOR AND PARTICIPATION IN THE WORK GOD IS DOING. How do you feel about this statement?
  • Jesus could have been famous if he had stayed with the masses. Instead he chose to leave so he could preach. What can you learn from his decision?
  • Think again about all the things Jesus did in this passage. How can you follow his example? Choose one action you can take this week to imitate him. Share it with those around you and pray together.
