To Marry or Not to Marry... That is the Question (1 Corinthians 7)

How can a distraction be a good thing?

How can a distraction do harm?

Read 1 Corinthians 7:25-35.

What is the difference between a "command" and "wisdom"?

Why do you think Paul said he didn't have a command? (vs.25) Does that mean he might be wrong in this passage? Why or why not?

Paul counseled the Corinthian Christians to "remain as they were" (married or single). Why might this suggestion seem unreasonable to some?

What are the troubles you think Paul was trying to help the Christians avoid?

When Paul wrote this letter, the church was about to go into a time of great persecution. How would marriage and family have made this persecution more difficult?

When have you wanted something new in life even though you were aware it would be better to remain as you were? How can longing for something different become unhealthy?

How can our desires for different life circumstances distract us from the things of God?

How can a marriage situation keep someone from focusing on the things of God? How can a healthy marriage enhance someone's ability to focus on the things of God?

In verse 29, Paul wrote that "the time is short". Knowing that our time on earth is temporal should impact how we live. How does it change the way we think about relationships?

Read verse 35. Paul's desire is to help people serve God without distraction. What can you do to make sure your relationships are not distracting you from service to God?
